AMUSEMENT PRIZE
- basic information -

<< tips about FIGURES from Japan >>

If you are collecting, or willing to collect Japanese figures
you'd better know some things about
FIGURES from Japan
On this blog, there are some tips which may help you getting BETTER ones.

<< AMUSEMENT PRIZE >>
There are many TOY PRODUCTION COMPANIES in Japan.
And, there are some companies who manufactures FIGURES
FOR AMUSEMENT ARCADES/PENNY ARCADES ONLY.
On those figures' boxes, these words are printed.

FOR AMUSEMENT PRIZE ONLY

This means, those figures are NOT FOR SALE in toy-shops BUT allowed only for a PRIZE at amusement arcades, for example a prize of Crane Games.
There are some differences between SELL items and PRIZE items.
SELL item has a BAR-CODE on its package
although PRIZE item NEVER have it.
Some SELL items are NOT SEALED (because they are stocked safely in toy-shops) and
some others are FACTORY-SEALED,
but most of PRIZE items are closed by normal clear adhesive tapes on their lids.

Because of the second difference, there is, honestly, NO prize item which is selling as "FACTORY-SEALED".
Sticking to the rules, "NEW" prize-items must not be in markets and no one can verify if the clear adhesive tapes on the box's lid are ones from the production company or not.

But, around the USED-ITEMS markets, there are many NEW/UNOPENED figures on sale.
Sometimes a figure can be recognized as UNOPENED by checking the inner package.
Inner packages for SOME prize items are sealed so we can confirm that an item is UNOPENED if the inner package is sealed.
However, to confirm the status of the inner package, we must open the box once and then, the box itself is OPENED.
With these reasons, there are almost NO prize-items which can be called "UNOPENED", we think.

There is only 1 possibility that a prize item can be verified as UNOPENED one.
The seller is the owner/worker of an amusement arcade (*), or
the seller has got the item directly from an amusement arcade.
Then, he must know that the item has come directly from the production company, and he can say that the item is NEW/UNOPENED.
(*) Although Manufactures of amusement prize are announcing that the item must NOT sell in a toy-shop.

There is another tip about Amusement Prize figures.
Most of them are "MADE IN CHINA". The reason is very simple. Most of those companies have their own factory in China, or are contracting directly with Chinese factories i
n order to facilitate labor costs.
Collectors/fans of "figures from Japan" should know that the items are NOT made in Chine for world-wide selling BUT just made in Chine for Japanese amusement arcades.

There are some major manufacturers of Amusement Prize,
BANPRESTO
EIKO
SEGA (AMUSEMENT)
TAITO
FURYU
SYSTEM SERVICE
SK JAPAN
FUKUYA
etc.

On our next blog, we'll introduce which company manufactures which figures.
